Privacy notice – Business Rates

​Information about how and when the Business Rates Team processes personal information about you.​

What we do

We collect and recover business rates in accordance with the Local Government Finance Act 1988.

This includes:

  • processing applications for various reliefs and exemptions

  • issuing magistrate court summons for non-payment 

  • referring unpaid debts to external agencies for enforcement or insolvency

  • providing information to the valuation office agency to request alterations to the rating list.

What information we collect

  • Rate payer and organisation name (and other names of joint ratepayers – if applicable)

  • Address

  • Correspondence address (if different)

  • Telephone number

  • Email address

  • Companies House registration number

  • Charity number (if applicable)

  • Bank details

  • Land registry documents

  • Mental capacity information

  • Disability information
