You can use the Walkit website to plan direct walking routes in and around the borough, and find nicer routes away from the traffic.

The TfL Walking in London webpages are devoted to walking, including useful advice on events and routes.

You can plan your journey, if you don't want to walk the entire route, scroll down the page and use the walking options to adjust your journey.

Walking Works

Walking Works is a national campaign to get more of us walking to work and to help employers and employees to get walking more.

Living Streets

A campaign to make our streets livelier with more people wanting to walk, Living Streets lobbies for better streets and neighbourhoods fitter for walking.

We are improving the quality of public space to make walking more pleasurable and hazard-free.

You will see improvements in lighting, paving and signage on key pedestrian routes.

Creekside low tide walks

Creekside Education Trust in Deptford offers guided walks up the creek - something for those who love mud!

Green Chain walks

One of London's six big walking routes. It's made up of various different routes, many manageable in a few hours. See Walk London for more information.

The Ramblers

The Ramblers is the largest membership organisation devoted to walking. You don’t have to be a member to find out about all the local activities and walking groups they run. Its Walk magazine contains the latest news around walking as recreation, with pages dedicated to London.

Walk London

Walk London has information on seven long-distance walks in London, two of which enter the borough. Each walk is broken down into sections and their are maps, route directions and an audio guide to help you.

The Saturday Walkers Club

The Saturday Walkers Club (SWC) is a London and Southeast England based walking group, which organises several walks each week in South East England, about an hour by train from central London.

Transport for London: Walking

There’s plenty of information to be found on Transport for London’s web pages devoted to walking.

Waterlink Way

The Waterlink Way is a walking and cycling route from Sydenham to the Thames.

It follows the rivers Pool and Ravensbourne Park Gardens through many parks and green spaces. 

An attractive 8 mile (12km) route, it also links the borough’s three main town centres – Catford, Lewisham and Deptford
