Submit a building notice
A building notice application is used for small extensions, loft conversion, new roofs, windows replacements, attached garages, drainage and other small works. You do not need approval prior to commencing but we may request a set of drawings or calculations.
A building notice is valid for three years starting from the day the application was submitted to us. It will automatically lapse if the works haven’t started. Once a building notice is submitted work can commence within 48 hours.
When to submit a notice
You need to submit a building notice for works including:
-
any small domestic work
-
drainage
-
electrical works
-
garage or carport
-
loft conversion
-
new roof
-
replacement windows
This list is not exhaustive. Contact us if you're not sure if you should submit a notice.
Cost
You need to pay a fee to us when you submit your building notice application.
In most cases, small domestic projects such as loft conversions, extensions, garages, and carports fall under schedule 1 of the fees chart.
If the floor area of the work exceeds 60m², the application will be charged according to schedule 2, which corresponds to the cost of the works.
