Supporting refugees

We are working with a range of partner organisations including central government, voluntary groups and the local community to welcome and house refugee families directly arriving from the Middle East. So far eight refugee families have resettled in Lewisham and we are preparing to welcome our next arrivals.

Syrian refugees

There are now over 5 million Syrians who have been registered as refugees by the United Nations. Most of these remain in neighbouring Middle Eastern countries like Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan.

How the community is supporting refugees

Lewisham has an active and engaged voluntary and community sector willing to support the integration of refugee families who have resettled in Lewisham. Offers of support and donations from the local community are coordinated by us and charity SHP in order to best meet the needs of the families.
