Notice of casual vacancy for a Local Government Councillor for Deptford Ward in the London Borough of Lewisham

Notice is hereby given (dated 19 September) under Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that a casual vacancy exists for the office of Councillor for the Deptford Ward in the London Borough of Lewisham.

Requesting a by-election

A by-election is held when two local government electors within the London Borough of Lewisham give notice in writing to the proper officer of the council that a by-election should take place.

Holding a by-election

On receipt of the requests to fill the casual vacancy, the Returning Officer will set a date for an election to be held within 35 working days. 

Requests for a by-election regarding this casual vacancy should include the name and address of the elector and be submitted to Jennifer Daothong, Chief Executive of Lewisham Council, Proper Officer, Returning Officer, Laurence House, Catford, London, SE6 9SE or via email to Jennifer.daothong@lewisham.gov.uk

Next scheduled elections

The next scheduled elections will be the GLA elections for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly on Thursday 2 May 2024. 

Note that the government can call a snap parliamentary election with 25 days' notice. Other unscheduled polls can happen, such as councillor by-elections and neighbourhood planning referendums. We will write to all electors with a poll card whenever an election is scheduled.
