We can provide certificates for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships that happened in Lewisham from 1 January 1940 onwards.

Fees and processing times

You will need to pay by debit/credit card when ordering a certificate online.

It costs £12.50 per certificate to search the General Register Office (GRO) database and locate the information for the certificate. The £12.50 fee is not refundable even if we can’t find the information.

We will refund any charges you paid for priority, additional copies, and postage.

Search service options

This fee covers our search to locate the information and issue the certificate.

standard search service for £12.50 / certificate - It will be issued within 14 working days (excluding shipping time)
priority search service for £38.50 / certificate - It will be issued the next working day at 2pm (excluding shipping time) if the order is placed before 2pm the day before

Delivery options

This fee covers the cost of delivery of the certificate.

UK - Signed For 1st class for £4 postage fee - an additional 5 working days* shipping time is required
UK - Next day delivery for £10 postage fee - an additional 1 working day* shipping time is required
international - tracked for £10 postage fee - an additional 10 working days (approx.)* shipping time is required

If we can't issue a certificate

We won't be able to issue a copy certificate if we don't hold the entry, or can't trace it from the information you provide. Please try to provide as much information as possible.

If we can't find your certificate, we'll retain the £12.50 search fee, but we'll refund any priority payments, and any additional payments you've made on top of the £12.50 for any extra copies of the certificate.

If we can't issue the certificate, please contact the General Register Office - they hold records of births, marriages, civil partnerships and deaths registered in England and Wales since 1 July 1837.

Copies of adoption, naturalisation or gender recognition certificates

We don't provide copies of adoption, citizenship and naturalisation gender recognition certificates.
