Deptford High Street Exemption Policy

We currently working with the community on the future of Deptford High Street.

Currently we are asking for feedback on our design proposal that aims to make the area more welcoming, greener and safer and an even better place to trade and do business. As part of this, we are proposing to pedestrianise part of Deptford High Street from New Cross Road to Hamilton Street every day during set hours – that are to be determined as part of this consultation.

Like other pedestrianised areas in the borough, some people may still need to be provided with an exemption to access the high street.  In these exceptional instances, you may be eligible to apply for an exemption for Deptford High Street (eligibility criteria apply), if you are one of the following groups:

  • Residents
  • Businesses
  • Essential Service Vehicles - Refuse and Emergency Service Vehicles
  • SEN Carriers/ Blue Badge Holder (Taxicard Holders)

As part of this consultation period (2 April until 14 May 2025), we will find out further information about who should be able to receive an exemption for Deptford High Street. We will communicate this as the design progresses.
