Sports pitches and courts

To book sports pitches and ball courts within our parks, contact our parks contractors, Glendale. For other pitches and courts contact the centres direct.

Due to national COVID-19 restrictions, outdoor sports courts, outdoor gyms, outdoor swimming pools and athletics tracks are closed. Organised outdoor sport for disabled people can continue. Find out more about the national lockdown on the Government's website.

Athletics track and facilities

The Ladywell Arena has a 400m running track (and track and field facilities). It’s open to everyone and is used by schools, local athletic clubs, county athletic clubs and keen amateurs.

Basketball courts are available in the following locations

Bowls

All bowling greens in the borough, including the greens situated in parks, are attached to bowls clubs and are not available for walk in play. You can find bowls clubs by looking in the sports clubs directory.

Camogie

Camogie is played on Blackheath, Pitches are organised through Glendale. Find out more about hiring sports facilities and venues.

Hockey

There are hockey pitches in Lewisham for use by Blackheath and old Elthamian's Hockey Club, there are also hockey pitches for hire by the general public at the following locations:

Multi use games areas

Many parks in the borough have courts that have markings for lots of different sports such as badminton, football and hockey and often have basketball and netball hoops. These are often available to use without charge or prior booking, but can be booked in advance. Find out more about hiring sports facilities and venues.

Netball

Most multi use games areas are marked out for netball. Netball pitches are also available at the following centres:

Outdoor gyms and fitness

Petanque is the French game of boules, popular throughout the world. There are two gravel terrains in Ladywell Fields Park, next to the bowling green, for public use.

Play facilities

Many of our parks have playgrounds and other play facilities for children. Find out about parks and open spaces in your area.

Rugby

There are rugby pitches available to hire at St Dunstan's Enterprises.

Skate parks are available in the following locations:

Softball

Softball pitches can be marked out by Glendale on any open space. There are softball pitches and programmes at the following centres:

Sports Halls

Sports halls are areas that can be hired out to groups or individuals to play a number of different sports, from 5-a-side football to cricket lanes, netball, basketball, indoor hockey and a number of other sports. Sports halls are available in the following centres:

Squash

Indoor squash courts are available at the following centre, you can also hire racquets and other equipment.

Table tennis

There are a number of free to use table tennis tables in the our parks, just bring along your bats and a ball and jump on. There are also indoor courts and equipment hire, available in some leisure centres.

Volleyball

The indoor sports hall at Forest Hill School Sports Centre is marked for volleyball. Contact the centre direct for booking information.
