What we do

  • We collect information for school admissions purposes.

  • This information will only be shared with the schools you applied for or an alternate school if we can't offer you a preferred school.

  • If you apply for a school outside the borough, we will also share this data with them purely for school admissions purposes.

  • We may also use and share this data with other public bodies to prevent or detect fraud and other crime.

What information we collect

The information we collect from you may include:

  • child’s name(s)
  • date of birth
  • gender
  • home address
  • school attendance(s)
  • school preference(s)
  • parent/carer(s) name(s)
  • contact details
  • relationship to the child
  • specific reasons for requesting the school placement(s)
  • evidence of residence
  • evidence of parental responsibility 

Agencies we may share your information with

We may share your information with:

  • DWP

  • police

  • Border Agency

  • housing organisations

  • children’s social care departments

  • local authority admissions teams

  • admission authorities where the governing body is responsible for school admissions.

Purpose for processing

Under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, Lewisham Council is legally required to provide education to residents who need a school placement. As the coordinating authority, we are required to electronically share school application details with admission authorities, including those located outside the borough and any local authority that maintains them.
