Online Permit System - frequently asked questions

This page provides the answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ) regarding the new online parking permit system in a step-by-step guide.

I have more than one vehicle on my permit. How do I change which one is the protected vehicle?

  1. Select the permit you wish to add a vehicle to from the active permits list when you first log in to your parking account, or on the Apply page
  2. Inside the permit, you can nominate which vehicle you would like to have the protection of the permit
  3. To do this, click Change protected vehicle, and then select your preferred vehicle

How do I add a second vehicle to an existing permit?

  1. Select the permit you wish to add a vehicle to from the active permits list when you first log in to your parking account, or on the Apply page
  2. Once you have opened the specific permit you would like to add a vehicle to, click Permanent addition of vehicle if it is a Resident Permit or Business Permit, or Add vehicle if it is a Key Worker Permit
  3. Enter in the registration number of your chosen vehicle in the Search Vehicle box, then press the search icon
  4. This will bring up the details of the vehicle, including the emissions
  5. If the emissions of the new vehicle are lower than the emissions of the vehicle already on the permit, there will be no extra cost to add the vehicle
  6. If the emissions of the new vehicle are higher than the emissions of the vehicle already on the permit, the system will inform you of the difference to pay in the Total box at the bottom
  7. Then press Accept Vehicle Details. You will then be redirected to CitiPay, our secure online payment provider
  8. Enter your payment details
  9. Once this had been done, you will be redirected back to your permit, and your new vehicle will display
  10. Now that there will be two vehicles on the permit, please ensure you protect the vehicle you want to park on the road during the hours of your Controlled Parking Zone

How do I remove a vehicle from an existing permit?

  1. Select the permit you wish to add a vehicle to from the active permits list when you first log in to your parking account, or on the Apply page
  2. Once you have opened the specific permit you would like to add a vehicle to, click Permanent change of vehicle if it is a Resident Permit or Business Permit.
  3. Click Change vehicle if it is a Health Care Permit
  4. In the pop up, please click the Select vehicle drop down box, and select the vehicle you would like to keep on the permit
  5. Once the vehicle details have displayed, press accept vehicle details at the bottom of the pop up.
  6. This will remove the other vehicle on the permit

How do I add a temporary vehicle to my permit – e.g., my car is in the garage, and I have a courtesy car for two weeks?

  1. Select the permit you wish to add a vehicle to from the active permits list when you first log in to your parking account, or on the Apply page
  2. Now choose Temporary change of vehicle
  3. Here you can add a temporary vehicle to your permit for a short amount of time. You can enter your temporary registration number, and how long you will need to add it for
  4. You will need to activate this vehicle as the 'protected vehicle'. See the above FAQ steps for how to change the 'protected vehicle'.

How do I use my electronic Carers Permit?

  1. Because the Carer Permit is valid for 4 hours a day, you will need to activate it by adding a start time (the time your carer arrives or is arriving)
  2. Select the permit you wish to add a vehicle to from the active permits list when you first log in to your parking account, or on the Apply page
  3. On the left-hand side of the page, under Summary, click the Add Start Time button
  4. Enter the time your carer will arrive, and then the 4 hours of cover will start from then

Can I have a Carers Permit and a Disabled Permit?

  1. No, you can only have one or the other

Am I eligible for a Resident Permit?

  1. Your permanent address must be within the boundary of a Lewisham CPZ
  2. You must be the registered keeper of the vehicle
  3. You must be over 17 years old to purchase a resident parking permit
  4. Your vehicle can be a passenger or a goods vehicle.
    • The overall height must not exceed 2.27m (7’5”),
    • The length must not exceed 5.25m (17’3”)
    • The unloading weight must not exceed 3,500kg (996lb)
  5. Your vehicle must be registered with the DVLA at the address stated in this application, or
  6. You must be the authorised keeper of a company vehicle, or the owner of a foreign registered vehicle. Foreign registered vehicles are only eligible for one permit for a maximum of 3 months

What documentation do I need to provide for a Resident permit?

  1. You may need to submit one form of evidence from the list below, to complete your application:
    • Council tax statement
    • Utility bill dated in last three months (water, gas or electricity)
    • Signed tenancy agreement
    • Solicitor’s letter confirming completion (new residents only)
    • Vehicle proof
    • Second page of V5C (logbook) displaying the name and address of the applicant
    • V5C/2 (new keepers supplement) or a bill of purchase for recently purchased vehicles
    • Hire / lease agreement: hire / lease documentation must show your name and address
    • Company letterhead confirming the employment and authorisation to drive and park at
    • the requested address
    • LPG conversion certificate if you have converted your vehicle to run on LPG (Liquid
    • Petroleum Gas) and your vehicle registration document (V5C) has not been updated

  2. Online first-time applicants will be allowed to purchase a permit without providing all the documents required at the point of application. However, failure to supply proof documents within one month of the application will result in the permit being cancelled.
  3. A refund will be issued for unused months, minus a £15 refund charge

How do I purchase Visitor Vouchers?

  1. Select Apply from the headings at the top of the page
  2. Select Visitor Vouchers from the list of options
  3. Follow the steps through and select the vouchers you would like
  4. Once you have paid for the vouchers, you can then apply them to any vehicle you would like
  5. They will be covered for residents’ bays in your CPZ

How do I activate Visitor Vouchers?

  1. Select Vouchers from the headings at the top of the page, or Book Session from the balance list when you first log in to your parking account
  2. You will see how many vouchers you have available (if you wish to buy more, please see the “How do I purchase Visitor Vouchers?” answer)
  3. Select Activate/ book e-voucher session
  4. Once you have filled in all the details required, click Create session at the bottom of the page
  5. This booking will display in the previous page under Current voucher sessions, and also the Current sessions list when you first log in to your parking account

I have moved house, but I am now within a different CPZ. Do I need to buy a new permit?

  1. Your existing permit can be used in the new CPZ, but you will need to call or email us to let us know that you have moved CPZ. We can change over the address and CPZ that your permit is registered to.
  2. We require one of the following documents before updating the address on your parking permit:
  • Tenancy agreement
  • Solicitor’s completion letter.

How do I apply for a refund for visitor vouchers?

  1. Visitor vouchers are non-refundable, per our Terms and Conditions
  2. If you move address, we can change the CPZ they are valid for
  3. Please read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing vouchers.

How much is my permit going to cost?

  1. From April 2020, we introduced banded charges for residents based on a vehicle’s CO2 emissions (according to HMRC vehicle bands)
  2. This is detailed in the new parking policy.
  3. Permits for the least polluting vehicles will be cheaper than now, while the most polluting vehicles will pay more.
  4. There’ll be a £70 surcharge for diesel vehicles as they produce air polluting nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM).
  5. Euro-6 compliant diesel vehicles will not be subject to this surcharge.

On 30 May 2022, motorcycle parking charges were implemented across the borough, based on how environmentally-friendly vehicles are.  If you own a motorcycle, you now need a permit to park it in the borough. You can find out how to apply for long-term or short-term permits on our website.
