Council tax reductions and exemptions

Find out if your property's exempt or if you're eligible to pay less council tax.
Haven't had your council tax bill?

If you've got a MyLewisham account and have registered to view your council tax account online, you won't get a paper copy of your annual bill – it'll be available to view online instead.

If you don't have MyLewisham account, you'll get a paper copy in the post as normal.

Low income

Find out about Council Tax reductions if you're on a low income.

Single person discount

If only one adult lives at the property you may be entitled to a 25% discount.

Full time student exemption

If you are a full time student you might be eligible for an exemption or discount depending on who is living with you.

Carers' discount

If you qualify as a carer you may be entitled to a discount.

Empty properties

Find out about council tax reductions for unoccupied properties.

Disability reduction scheme

If there's an extra room or adapted space in the property, needed by a disabled occupant, you might be eligible for a discount.

Hospital or care home discount

If you've moved permanently into hospital or a residential care home, you may be entitled to a discount on the property you have left.

Care leavers' discount

As a care leaver, you may be entitled to a reduction in council tax until you're 25.

Apprentice discount

We may reduce your council tax bill by 25% if your apprenticeship meets the criteria.

Prisoner discount

We may reduce your council tax if you or the person you usually live with is in prison.

Severely mentally impaired reduction

If someone aged 18 and over lives with you and is severely mentally impaired you may be entitled to a reduction.

Ukraine scheme

The Government has set out guidelines to help protect council tax payers whose bills might have increased as a result of helping out under the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
