Homes for Ukraine scheme

The Government has issued guidance to help protect council tax payers whose council tax liability may have increased as a result of supporting individuals under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme.
Council tax online billing

If you've signed up to online billing, you won't get a council tax bill for 2026/27 in the post - but it will be available to download or print in your MyLewisham account. If your email receipt's not in your inbox, please check your spam or junk folders.

This guidance applies to all Ukrainian nationals who have been granted permission to enter or remain in the United Kingdom under the Government’s Homes for Ukraine Scheme.

Information we require

If you're sharing your home with, or have let a property to, a Ukrainian refugee under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme, please provide the following information:

  • the full address of the property
  • the names of the Ukrainian refugees residing at the property
  • the date they moved in
  • copies of any documentation confirming permission to enter or remain in the UK under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme

This information is required where you believe that a Council Tax discount, reduction, or exemption may apply.

Important information about UPE visa holders

Please note that individuals who hold a Ukraine Permission Extension (UPE) visa are not entitled to a council tax reduction where they are living independently (for example, as tenants or sole occupiers of a property).

Council tax discounts related to the Homes for Ukraine Scheme apply only in specific circumstances and are not automatically granted. Each case will be assessed based on the individual circumstances and the relevant legislation.
