COVID-19 in Lewisham - 22 July update
This week, most COVID-19 restrictions were lifted. However, with increasing infection rates, the reality is that for most of us, little has changed. For example, face coverings are still required on Transport for London services, and many shops and businesses are asking their staff and customers to continue to social distance and wear a mask.
Keeping safety measures in place
At the Council, we’re continuing to keep COVID measures in place at all of our offices and public buildings, including libraries, leisure centres and children’s centres. This is important because wearing a face covering helps to protect those around us – particularly those who are clinically extremely vulnerable.
We’ve come so far, we cannot afford to relax just yet, so my message to everyone in Lewisham is to draw on the community spirit that drove us through the start of the pandemic. Think of those around you who may be vulnerable and do your bit to support them: wear a face covering in enclosed or crowded spaces; socially distance where possible; if you have friends or family over keep your home well ventilated; take a rapid test twice a week and make sure you get both doses of the vaccine.
Thanks to everyone who is doing their bit to help us fight the virus!
Self-isolation
With infection rates rising we’ve heard reports of more and more people being ‘pinged’ by the NHS COVID-19 app or contacted by NHS Test and Trace, alerting them that they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus and telling them to self-isolate. If you receive this alert it’s really important you follow the instructions to prevent further spread of the disease. If you have been asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, you may be entitled to financial support. Find out more about financial support for those self-isolating on our website.
As ever, there are plenty of places for you to get the vaccine this weekend – from your local GP surgery and pharmacists across the borough. Find out more about how to book your first or second dose of the vaccine on our website.
