Neighbourhood community infrastructure levy funding

Find out how to develop your local area using the NCIL community funding programme.

What is the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL)?

A levy called the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is charged to certain new developments in the borough.

In Lewisham, 25% of the total raised is set aside as NCIL to be spent after conversation with local communities on Lewisham’s priorities. The rest is allocated to broader infrastructure projects such as:

  • schools
  • hospitals
  • roads
  • open spaces
  • leisure facilities

There is both a Borough-wide NCIL Fund and an NCIL fund for each of Lewisham’s 19 wards.

NCIL funds must be spent on  lessening the impact of development.

How can you influence how NCIL is spent?

Apply for NCIL Funding

If your project proposal is not listed on the Council’s consultation hub and you represent a community group wishing to deliver a project, apply online for the Borough-wide or Ward fund.

Read the complete guidance to understand the available funding and allocation process.

Find out more about NCIL, including examples of what we can fund, application support and guidance and submit your application by visiting Lewisham’s Community Funding page.

Show support for capital projects proposed by the council. Projects are shortlisted based on how well they meet Lewisham’s priorities and the NCIL criteria, affordability, and deliverability.

You can see and support these projects on the Council’s consultation hub.

When will the consultation hub and NCIL open call for applications open?

We launched the fund on Monday 8 July and both the consultation hub and applications will be open until Monday 23 September 2024.
