Playing Pop

Do you like pop music? Do you enjoy playing different instruments? Would you like to play variety of instruments along to music from a popular music repertoire.? This course might be perfect for you. This 11 week course is for Adults with Learning Difficulties and supports social skills and health pathways. During this course you will explore different instruments and styles of music in an inclusive workshop experience. You will also discuss and agree within group on the programme of music which will be covered on the course. This course contributes to gaining isight into your self-performance skills by participating in the recording of indiviual videos.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
Learners need to have an interest in music and be able to hear and participate with good manual control and mobility. A good degree of fine motor skills is beneficial to be able to hold small hand percussion.There will be a pre-course assessment.

Learning Goals:
To participate in music making on weekly basis. To learn a minimum one song from the pop genre. To gain insight into performance-skills and perform at least once together as a group. To learn a minimum of 3 notes on the keyboard.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Within this small supportive class, your tutor may use the following teaching methods that will be inclusive for all abilities and levels, so that all learners make good progress towards their goals: demonstrations, discussions, 1:1 support and practical group activities.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Assessment may include: informal question and answer, feedback, self-assessment, quizzes, games, portfolios and case studies.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
It will be beneficial for you to practise what you have learnt in class in your everyday life and you may be asked by your tutor to complete something specific to enhance your new skills and improve your confidence.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Wear comfortable clothing. Students can bring their own instruments if they want.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
Learners will be expected to purchase an A4 folder to contain handouts. Please bring enthusiasm to participate,.
