Family learning – yoga, meditation and mindfullness – taster

Try yoga and meditation with your family in this online taster session for adults and children. Yoga is a mind and body practice that combines movement, meditation and breathing techniques to promote mental and physical wellbeing. This online course will allow you and your children to explore some poses, learn about the benefits of this type of exercise and discover whether a longer online family yoga course is right for you.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
This taster class is suitable for beginners.

Learning Goals:
Learn about family yoga, meditation and mindfullness. Discover the benefits yoga can offer. Explore some poses associated with this type of exercise. Consider whether our online family learning yoga, meditation and mindfullness course is for you.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Please note this course will be delivered online. The tutor will contact you to help you prepare for your distance learning course.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will gauge your progress by observing your performance, correcting your poses and offering guidance and feedback. You'll also use self assessment and discussion.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
The tutor will discuss this with you in your first session.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
You'll need a computer with internet access to take part in this online course. You'll also need a yoga mat. Other props can be improvised with home furniture, but if students want to buy equipment, the tutor may be able to offer advice. Please don't purchase anything before your first session unless requested to do so. No liability can be accepted for expenses incurred for a class cancelled or altered at short notice.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
Please wear comfortable clothing that doesn't restrict your movement, and don't eat for at least an hour before your session.

Options when finished
The tutor will discuss progression options as part of the session. The department offers a wide variety of wellbeing courses. Information about these is available through the tutor, the curriculum leader or the ALL programme.
