What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
No prior knowledge or experience is necessary to enrol on this course. Please be advised that some learners who enrol will have more experience than others.
A basic level of English, Maths and computer skills would be useful.
Learning Goals:
To capture a variety of images inspired by the course title - 'exploring nature through photography'.
To understand how mindfulness can help build a more thoughtful approach to your surroundings.
To build and develop your skills in dark room printing.
To further develop your camera skills.
What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the course which will include the following: Demonstration - both group and individual, one to one tuition, group work, assessment of progress, observation, discussion/question and answer sessions.
What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The course tutor will use a range of methods to assess progress on the course. These may include: observation, completion of an Individual Learning Plan which will be updated regularly, evaluation of work samples, question and answer sessions, photographs of projects to record achievement presented on our virtual learning environment (VLE).
Will extra work be required outside the class times?
Learners may wish to work on their projects outside class time in order to progress. Homework exercises may be set to enhance and develop techniques learnt in the class. You will be encouraged to access our virtual learning environment all.lewisham.gov.uk (VLE), take part in course forums and various online activities provided. You will also need to sign up to a gmail google account, to enable you to access google sites or classroom, where your online course will be posted. What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
A small charge is included in the fee for basic materials (1x B/W film and 25 sheets of 5x7 photographic paper) where appropriate a charge has been included for use of specialist equipment.
This will enable you to achieve the course goals. If you wish to make additional prints or use another roll of film, you will need to purchase them. This will be discussed with the course tutor and will not be covered in the course basic materials fee. Please do not purchase anything before your first lesson unless requested to do so.
You must attend the course with your own analogue camera. If this isn't possible, please contact the Curriculum Leader maria.turner@lewisham.gov.uk so that an alternative option can be arranged. No liability can be accepted for expenses incurred for a course cancelled / altered at short notice.
What do I need to bring to the first class?
You will need to bring a packed lunch as the café may not be open for selling food. If the weather is good, you can sit outdoors and enjoy your break.
You must attend with your own analogue and digital camera’s. It will be possible to experiment with one of the vintage cameras ALL has available.
Please wear closed-in shoes and bring an apron, and waterproof jacket.
Your completed initial assessment ‘Getting to know you’ will be emailed to you. This must be completed before you start the course. Please check your junk folder if you haven’t received it within a few days of enrolling.
A Health & Safety document will be on the site information to ensure safe practice.
Options when finished
The department offers a wide variety of Design, Media, Music and Food courses at different levels. Information about these courses is available through the tutor, the Curriculum Leader or the ALL programme.
Additional information
The tutor will contact you via email before the course begins, please ensure we have your correct details. This learning space is used for a varied course offer, please leave the space clean and tidy ensuring chairs are stacked, rubbish and personal belongings are removed. All drinks taken into this space must be kept in a re-usable lidded cup or drink bottle.
