Hospice care for children

Children's hospices provide care and support for children and young people up to 19-years-old who have life-threatening or life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Support in hospices is available from the point of diagnosis, through day-to-day family life and at times of crisis and bereavement.

Charity funded hospices offer various care and support including:

  • respite care
  • family support
  • family events and siblings groups
  • transition to adulthood
  • end-of-life care
  • bereavement support.

There may be access to therapies, for example art and music, hydrotherapy pool and sensory rooms. Staff at hospices are qualified professionals and volunteers.

Referrals can be made direct to hospices by anyone, including family members. Written consent will be required from a parent or carer with parental responsibility before referrals can be progressed.
