Pets in council homes

We are a pet friendly landlord – find out what pets you can have and what restrictions you'll need to follow.

You can keep the following animals – you don't need to get our permission:

  • dogs (excluding any dogs banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act)
  • cats
  • fish
  • rabbits
  • guinea pigs
  • hamsters
  • caged birds

If you want to keep any other type of animal, reptile or bird you must get written permission from our Housing Management team.

Pet ownership is a big responsibility – you should look after your animals and make sure they don’t cause a nuisance within your property or in communal areas. We'll withdraw permission to keep a pet if it causes a nuisance or health hazard, and we will report any animal cruelty or neglect to the RSPCA.
