Balloon decoration workshop- beginners

This exciting new 4-week course will introduce you to all the skills needed to construct air-filled organic or free-form balloon installations for celebrations and events- including birthday parties, baby showers & christenings. Using an arch as the core design construction, you will begin to learn how it will be possible to develop different design shapes and styles. The course will cover sizing, inflation, and construction techniques and it will also include essential Health & Safety knowledge, build basic commercial awareness & design costing skills, and show how you can enhance your work by using simple design principles

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
No prior knowledge or experience is required to enrol on this course.

Learning Goals:
Learn how to construct balloon installations for different celebrations and events. To understand and apply basic design theory such as the use of colour, shape and texture. To understand the correct and safe use of tools and equipment used on the course. To be able to cost a completed design, for potential future commercial use.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the course which will include the following: Demonstration - both group and individual, one to one tuition, group work, assessment of progress, observation, discussion / question and answer sessions.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The course tutor will use a range of methods to assess progress on the course. These may include: Observation, discussion, group and one to one evaluation of your work, and question and answer sessions.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
Extra work between sessions is not essential but will enable learners to practice techniques.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
All the course materials will be provided for each session, and the cost of these is include in the course fee. As the course progresses, you may wish to build your own basic essential toolkit and this will be essential if you want to begin to work on commissions- the tutor will discuss this with you during the sessions.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
As this is a practical class please wear suitable clothing & footwear. Please bring a notebook and pen and a camera/phone will also be useful for recording design ideas & techniques, or for photographing your work to build a portfolio.

Options when finished
The department also offers a wide variety of courses in related areas of Floristry & Balloon Decoration, and at different levels from beginners/improvers through to more advanced skills. These can help to build a skills set that can be beneficial if you are considering a career in the industry. Additional information
The course fee includes all the materials that you will use, and a small contribution towards the maintenance of tools & equipment.
