This follow-on workshop will develop your skills & knowledge by showing you the many ways in which you can use and adapt your existing dress block- by splitting it into separate bodice and skirt blocks. You will learn how to use half-scale blocks to enable you to create a range of different bespoke blouse, top and skirt patterns

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
It is ESSENTIAL to have completed the part 1 course- make a bespoke dress block- before attending this course. Maths using addition, subtraction and multiplication are required on this course in order to make calculations for a variety of projects. English reading skills are essential to be able to interpret patterns and follow technical instructions. Leaners are, therefore, expected to have at least Entry Level standard in Maths and English. Before enrolling, please contact the curriculum leader if you have any concerns regarding the suitability of the course for you

Learning Goals:
To learn how to split your dress block into separate bodice and skirt blocks To learn how to use half-scale blocks To create a range of different patterns from your blocks To understand more in-depth pattern terminology

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of methods during the session, and these will include demonstration, discussion, Q&A and one to one guidance, where applicable

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The course tutor will use a range of methods to assess progress on the course. These may include: Observation, evaluation of work samples, and question & answer sessions

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
Extra work is not essential but will enable learners to practice techniques and progress their projects at a faster pace.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Please ensure that you have all the basic items listed in the ‘what to bring to the first session’ section. Materials such as pattern paper & card, calico and other sundries are all included in the course fee

What do I need to bring to the first class?
Please bring the following items: an H or HB pencil, a notebook & pen, a pencil sharpener & eraser, 4 x different coloured fibre tip/gel ink pens, a calculator (or use your phone), dressmaking pins and a 1.5 cm wide tape measure

Options when finished
The department offers a wide variety of fashion and textile courses at different levels. Information about progression courses is available through the tutor, the Curriculum Leader or the online Adult Learning Lewisham programme. There are also a range of courses at a higher level offered across London and the South East by Colleges, Community and Adult Education providers and through local craftspeople. Please do not enrol onto this course unless you have already attended part 1- TFD401SGR . The course fee includes a charge for basic sampling materials, sundries & maintenance of tools and equipment
