What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
This class is only suitable for learners who are already confident sewing machine users, and would be ideal for those with at least some basic garment making experience- please note that very basic sewing machine skills will not be taught
Learning Goals:
To be able to use a simple pattern template to cut out your bag & lining
To use a range of sewing techniques, and specialist tools & equipment correctly and safely
To complete your bag to a good standard
What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the course which will include the following: Demonstration - both group and individual, one to one tuition, group work, assessment of progress, observation, discussion / question and answer sessions.
What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The course tutor will use a range of methods to assess progress on the course. These may include: Observation, completion of an Individual Learning Plan which will be updated regularly, evaluation of work samples, question and answer sessions.
Will extra work be required outside the class times?
Extra work is not essential, but if you have access to a sewing machine, it will enable learners to practice techniques and progress their projects at a faster pace
What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
You will need to bring everything that you will use on the day: including your own basic sewing kit items if you have them (e.g. stitch ripper, dressmaking pins, tape measure & fabric cutting out scissors), the fabric of your choice, and good quality polyester sewing thread and a zip in a matching colour. You will need the equivalent of approximately 50cm of fabric each for the outer fabric and lining- but please do not purchase anything new until you have received confirmation that the class is definitely running.
What do I need to bring to the first class?
All items previously listed in the materials section & please note it is not possible to bring your own sewing machine.
