Introduction to ICT in everyday life

Want to boost your computer skills? This course will help you to improve your digital skills which are essential in personal and work life. This 11 week course is for Adults with Learning Difficulties and supports development of life skills. During this exiting learning opportunity you will have access to a wide range of electronic devices to use the extensive services and resources available through the internet. Services includes communication, getting around, job search & benefits, online transactions, entertainment, and learning. These themes contribute greatly to introducing you to independence and employability skills.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
To enrol on the course you need to be able to recongise the letters of the alphabet, identify and count numbers 1-10 confidently and have the ability to read some simple words.There will be a pre-course assessment.

Learning Goals:
Use at least two different electronic devices to access services and resources available on the internet. Understand the IT systems you use in your everyday experiences. Know how to be safe and responsible online and find and use information on the internet. Improve your access to information, advice, and services by identifying and navigating websites, understanding the meaning of headings and access appropriate links.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Within this small supportive class, your tutor may use the following teaching methods that will be inclusive for all abilities and levels, so that all learners make good progress towards their goals: demonstrations, discussions, 1:1 support and practical group activities.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Assessment may include: informal question and answer, feedback, self-assessment, quizzes, games, portfolios and case studies.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
It will be beneficial for you to practise what you have learnt in class in your everyday life and you may be asked by your tutor to complete something specific to enhance your new skills and improve your confidence.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Pens and an A4 folder to keep completed class work and hand-outs given from the tutor. A USB is optional; learners can save their work in the computer drive.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
Learners must bring their folder with them to the class every week. This will enable any learning gaps to be addressed and will minimise disruption in the journey of learning.

We expect a commitment to attend well. This is beneficial to making progress. If you have problems in class with your work or with other learners please speak to your tutor or contact the curriculum leader.
