Creative dance

Explore your creativity through dance. This course is for adults with learning difficulties and supports the health and wellbeing pathway. During this course, you will have freedom to explore your own dance ideas. You will create dances, alone and with others - solo and group pieces - and will practise following instructions and learning a series of exercises. Basic skills are integral to this course.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
This course is suitable for beginners. Learners need to have an interest in music and dancing. Basic skills such as comprehension/ability to copy and an ability to hear/move are beneficial.There will be a pre-course assessment.

Learning Goals:
To participate in dancing along on a weekly basis To create one dance performance during the term To explore your own dance ideas and incorporate at least one idea into a dance during the term N/A

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Within this small supportive class, your tutor may use the following teaching methods that will be inclusive for all abilities and levels, so that all learners make good progress towards their goals: demonstrations, discussions, 1:1 support and practical group activities.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Assessment may include: informal question and answer, feedback, self-assessment, quizzes, games, portfolios and case studies.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
It will be beneficial for you to practise what you have learnt in class in your everyday life and you may be asked by your tutor to complete something specific to enhance your new skills and improve your confidence.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
You should wear appropriate sports wear, with layers of clothing for if you get hot, and soft shoes

What do I need to bring to the first class?
You should wear appropriate sports wear, with layers of clothing for if you get hot, and soft shoes. You can bring a pen and paper should you like taking notes.

There are a variety of different courses available in the supported learning department or mainstream classes if appropriate. Information about these courses is available in the prospectus and through your tutor and curriculum leader.

We expect a commitment to attend well. This is beneficial to making progress.
