Art of drawing and painting

This 11-week course is for learners who enjoy drawing, painting and experimenting with art materials. This creative approach falls under our health and wellbeing pathway, with creativity helping to ease mental health challenges. You will produce something unique and beautiful which can be shared with our community through our celebrations and events. In term 1 you will explore artists who paint still life artworks. You will get inspired by paintings from the past as well as artwork by modern artists working today. Expect to learn about a new artist each week and create a personal artwork inspired by their work and style. You will develop a portfolio of artwork and a sketchbook of ideas and inspiration!

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
Willingness to participate and learn and commitment to attend every week is expected. You should have a passion for art and feel excited about experimenting with materials and learning new techniques!There will be a pre-course assessment.

Learning Goals:
To learn how to use a sketchbook to record ideas and in turn create a portfolio of original and personal artworks To experiment with a wide range of art materials and try someting new at least once a term To learn how to give feedback to other learners in the class about their artwork and provide one at least once a term To create a minimum of one artwork during term which you will be happy to share/exhibit

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Within this small supportive class, your tutor may use the following teaching methods that will be inclusive for all abilities and levels, so that all learners make good progress towards their goals: demonstrations, discussions, 1:1 support and practical group activities.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Assessment may include: informal question and answer, feedback, self-assessment, quizzes, games, portfolios and case studies.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
It will be beneficial for you to practise what you have learnt in class in your everyday life and you may be asked by your tutor to complete something specific to enhance your new skills and improve your confidence.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Wear clothes which you do not mind getting messy, tops which enable you to roll up your sleeves. Aprons are provided in class.

Options when finished
There are a variety of different courses available in the supported learning department or mainstream classes if appropriate. Information about these courses is available in the prospectus and through your tutor and curriculum leader.

We expect a commitment to attend well. This is beneficial to making progress. If you have problems in class with your work or with other learners please speak to your tutor or contact the curriculum leader.
