Basic I.T. for Beginners

This 10-week course is for beginners who have little or no knowledge of the use of a digital device. So, the initial sessions will be training you how to use the keyboard and general functions of the device. The course is for learners who wish to learn the Microsoft Word and Excel packages, either for home or work purposes, and you will learn how to create, save and print simple documents. Beside the use of a computer, you will learn how to use other digital devices for communication (Phone Ipad, Chromebook, internet etc.) In addition, you will be taught how to enhance your M.S. documents by adding borders and colours, use simple formulae such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. These skills will help you to create/build your own document or budgetary spreadsheet, including emailing and the production of simple spreadsheet charts using the data produced.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
No previous knowledge is expected.

Learning Goals:
Learn how to use a computer/laptop/mobile phone etc. Use Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheet to create a document. Save and print both a Word document and spreadsheet. Demonstrate how to insert an image or clip art into a document.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Demonstrations, question and answer, discussions, practical worksheets and one to one support.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
There will be informal assessment through observation, quizzes, discussion and feedback on your work produced.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
There is no compulsory extra work, but to consolidate what has been taught in the classroom, to aid learning it is highly recommended that practice is done at home.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Tutor will discuss and recommend any suitable course materials at the beginning of the course.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
Folder to store your work and pen and paper for note taking.

Additional information
Access to a computer for practice outside of class is a requirement, as well as at least 80% attendance.
