Mindful Photography - introduction - FREE taster

An invitation to reconnect with your creative spirit and the world around you through the art of photography. This course will start the day in the photography studio at the Brockley Centre, weather permitting the class may move to the outdoors where you will as a group take part in a short comfortable walk taking photos as you go. You will get some great tips for digital photography on location and explore the joy of sharing with likeminded people.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
No prior knowledge experience is necessary to enrol on this course. All learners welcome.

Learning Goals:
To explore how you can express your feelings and emotions through photography. Learn from your own practices and other learners using participatory methods. Share thoughts and ideas and connect through art and dialog with your community. Identify and achieve a personal goal as discussed with your tutor.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the class, including demonstration (both group and individual), one to one tuition, group work, progress assessments, observation, discussion and question and answer sessions.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use various methods to assess your progress during the course. These may include observation, completion of an Individual Learning Plan which will be updated regularly, evaluation of work samples, question and answer sessions, and photos of projects to record your achievements in our virtual learning environment (VLE).

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
This is a taster session, learners may wish to work on projects outside the classroom in order to progress. Homework exercises are set to enhance and develop techniques learnt during the session.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
You must have your own digital camera or camera phone available to use. They must be fully operational.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
ALL enrolled learners are expected to bring their own digital camera or phone with camera access on the day. A notebook and pen for not taking. Please wear appropriate clothing as you may go on a walk to capture images locally.

Options when finished
The department offers a wide variety of design, media, music and food courses at different levels. Information about these courses is available through the tutor, the curriculum leader or the ALL programme.

Additional information
The tutor will contact you via email before the course begins, please ensure we have your correct details. Check your junk mail for any correspondence from us at least 1 day before the course start date. This is a practical class, ALL cannot be held responsible for any items including work, materials, tools etc left by the learner in our workrooms. This workspace is used for a varied course offer, please leave the space clean and tidy ensuring rubbish and personal belongings are removed. All drinks taken into the space must be kept in a re-useable lidded cup or container.
