Community ESOL - Entry 1/Entry 2

This course is for adults who know the letters of the alphabet and can read, write, spell and speak some English words. You will make friends in class and become more confident in all your English skills. You will practise how to give personal information in short sentences using correct word order, fill in a simple form, recognise and understand common signs and symbols and spell common and personal words correctly. You will need a notebook, a pen and an A4 folder.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods, including whole group, small group and individual activities, discussions and exercises to suit a range of learning styles.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Your skills will be assessed at the start and the end of the course to measure your progress. This might include: observation, evaluation of work, question and answer sessions, and individual feedback and support.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
You will need to take every opportunity to develop your learnt skills. Practice outside the classroom will be beneficial and homework may be set.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
You will need: an email address and a pen, pencil and writing pad..

What do I need to bring to the first class?
You will need to have a pen, pencil, writing pad during your all sessions and for homework. You will need to be able to access the online course resources and meetings via your tablet, laptop/PC (with a microphone/camera) or phone. This course will be run using Google Classroom and/or Moodle and you will be given all the information needed to access the ONLINE part of the course in your first classroom lesson.

Options when finished
You can progress to a more advanced course and/or a course where you can work towards accreditation.

Additional information
On the course, you must attend every session on time and participate fully, in order to make progress. You are expected to report any absence to your course tutor. You will be given contact information by your course tutor.
