What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
Some pottery experience would be beneficial but is not essential.

Learning Goals:
Understand the basic processes of designing and making pots. Develop your confidence in manipulating clay. Complete a minimum of one pot. Achieve a personal goal as discussed with your tutor.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the course, including demonstration (both group and individual), one to one tuition, group work, progress assessments, observation, discussion and question and answer sessions.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use various methods to assess your progress during the course. These may include observation, evaluation of work samples and question and answer sessions.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
The tutor will discuss this with you in your first session.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
The course fee includes a small charge for basic pottery materials. Most of the equipment you'll need is provided by the pottery studio. You may be asked to provide additional materials and tools during your course, which may not be covered by the course fee. The course tutor will discuss this with you. Please do not purchase anything before your first session unless requested to do so. No liability can be accepted for expenses incurred for a course cancelled or altered at short notice.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
All basic materials are provided. This is a practical subject, so please wear suitable clothing including flat, closed toe, non slip shoes. A notebook and pen may be useful.

Options when finished
The department offers a wide variety of art, pottery and performing arts courses. Information about these courses is available through the tutor, the curriculum leader or the ALL programme.

Please note that ALL cannot be held responsible for any items including work, materials and tools left by the learner in our workrooms. Learners are expected to remove items during the holiday periods, at the end of the course and in accordance with disposal deadlines set by the tutor.
