Where to have your baby

Having a baby can be a wonderful, joyful and daunting experience. One of your first decisions when you discover you are pregnant is where you will have your baby. Here are some of the organisations and options for you to consider.

Choosing where to have your baby

Complete a short questionnaire from Which? to find the right place for you to give birth.

University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Greenwich labour ward

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust provide care during pregnancy, labour and after the birth. If your pregnancy is straightforward, you will routinely be offered a birth in the Birth Centre and a home birth.

If your pregnancy is not straightforward, you will be offered the choice to have your baby in a delivery suite, where you will get high-quality and safe care to meet your individual needs.

Lewisham hospital Birth Centre

The Birth Centre opened to the public in May 2010 to meet the demand of women who want a more active labour in a less high-tech setting.

The Birth Centre is aimed at women who expect an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth, who want to move around during labour, require minimum pain relief and who want a ‘home from home’ style environment in which to have their baby
