Home care

Support to help you live safely and comfortably at home.

Home care – also known as domiciliary care – is practical, personalised support delivered in your own home. It helps you stay independent, safe, and well, especially if you’re older, have a disability, or are recovering from illness or injury.

What is home care?

Home care can include help with:

  • personal care (eg. washing, dressing, using the toilet)
  • taking medication
  • preparing meals or having meals delivered
  • getting in and out of bed
  • light household tasks
  • supervision and companionship
  • support with health and mobility needs

Home care is tailored to your needs. It can be a short visit once a day, or multiple visits throughout the day and night.

How to get home care

To get home care arranged or funded by Adult Social Care, you’ll need a Care and Support Needs Assessment:

Cost of home care

If you’re arranging care yourself, you’ll need to agree costs directly with the agency.

Average cost: £23–£25 per hour (please check with the provider for exact pricing).

Agencies should:

  • offer a free home visit for an initial assessment
  • provide their offer and costs in writing

If you qualify for support from the Council, we may help with the cost based on your financial assessment.
