Assistive technology and telecare

Assistive technology and telecare can help you live safely and independently at home.

These tools and alarms make sure someone can support you quickly if something goes wrong - like if you fall, feel unwell, or need urgent help.

Our Linkline Telecare Service is a 24-hour emergency alarm system. It offers peace of mind to older people, people with disabilities, or anyone who feels vulnerable living alone.

What is Linkline?

Linkline is a 24-hour careline service run by Lewisham Council.

It connects you to trained staff who can help you in an emergency - day or night, 365 days a year.

You can:

  • press a pendant alarm if you need help
  • speak to someone through a special phone unit in your home
  • get support for medical, safety or social emergencies
  • the team can contact a friend, family member, emergency services - or send someone to check on you

What other equipment is available?

You can get extra devices (known as telecare) to meet your needs, including:

  • fall detectors - if you fall and can’t press your alarm
  • motion sensors - alert if you haven’t moved in a while
  • smoke, gas, or carbon monoxide detectors - keep you safe from fire or leaks
  • flood detectors - warn if taps are left on
  • medication reminders - alert you when it’s time to take your tablets
  • bed or chair sensors - notify staff if you haven’t got up
  • GPS trackers - useful if you or someone you care for may wander

Preventing problems early

As well as responding in emergencies, some technology monitors your health and wellbeing over time.

This is called lifestyle monitoring or telehealth.

It can:

  • track things like blood pressure or oxygen levels
  • send the results to a nurse or doctor
  • help spot early signs of illness before they get worse

This means you get the right help at the right time.

Who can get it?

This service is for people who:

  • are older or live alone
  • have a disability or long-term health condition
  • are recovering from illness or hospital stay
  • feel unsafe at home or worry about falling

Telecare helps you feel more confident and secure in your home.
