How to join Lewisham Libraries
How to join
Join at any of our libraries with proof of your name and address:
- proof can be paper or electronic and should show your full name and current address
- acceptable documents include a driving licence, council tax bill or household bill dated within the last 3 months
- you will then be given a library card, and will be able to borrow items straight away
Alternatively you can sign up online for immediate access to our eLibrary, Wi-Fi and PCs.
If you'd like to borrow physical books and other items you will then need to visit a library with proof of your name and address to receive your library card.
If you are 13 or under
-
You need a parent, legal guardian or teacher to act as your guarantor.
-
You need to give us your date of birth. This is because some of our books have age restrictions, and because some of our fees vary according to your age.
Visit the Lewisham Libraries website to:
- search the catalogue and reserve items
- access eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, comics and online resources
- find out about our events and activities

We offer a free monthly service for anyone who can’t get to a library in person.
This service is available to residents who are disabled, unwell, older, or caring for someone. You can borrow a range of items, including standard and large‑print books, audiobooks, music CDs, and selected DVDs.
People of all ages can use this service, whether they need it temporarily or long‑term.
