Visitor parking permits

Visitor permits are now paperless. You can register your visitor's vehicle 28 days in advance or when they arrive.

The process takes only a few minutes and once you have registered for the first time, subsequent visitor applications are completed quickly. Parking attendants are given the details of your visitor's vehicle on the electronic readers they carry. 

Visitor permit costs (from 1 April 2024)

• book of 10 one-hour vouchers: £19.40 (£1.94 per hour)*
• per half-day (up to five hours): £4.85
• per day: £7.54
• per week: £32.31 

*Each household with at least one annual resident parking permit (including disabled residents) will be automatically provided with 10 hours of free visitor parking credit if they live in a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ), accessible online.

Residents in CPZs who are over 60, get council support and do not have another annual parking permit will also receive 10 hours of free visitors parking credit, accessible online.

Visitor vouchers can be purchased by residents without owning a parking permit, but we may still require proof of address to verify your details.

Choosing the right visitors vouchers

Book of 10 one-hour vouchers - Can be activated in single or multi-hour blocks.

Half day (five hour) permit - Once activated, this voucher is valid to a specific vehicle for five hours. You cannot save or carry over hours which are not used, nor can you transfer permit permission to a different vehicle after the voucher has been activated.

One day permit - Once activated, this voucher is valid for a specific vehicle for one day (based on controlled permit zone operating times). For example, if you activate a voucher at 2pm, this will be valid until the CPZ hours end. Should they end at 5pm, this is when the voucher will end. Vouchers do not apply for 24 hours from activation. You cannot save or carry over hours which are not used, nor can you transfer permit permission to a different vehicle after the voucher has been activated.

One week permit - Once activated, this voucher is valid for a specific vehicle for one week (seven consecutive days, based on controlled permit zones operating times). You cannot save or carry over hours which are not used, nor can you transfer permit permission to a different vehicle after the voucher has been activated.

When purchasing visitors vouchers, please ensure that they are activated for each session.

Scratch cards

E-vouchers

You can purchase and send e-vouchers to visitors electronically (including tradespeople and delivery drivers) to populate permit details themselves, via your new online permit account.

Do I have to buy visitor permits?

You will need a visitor permit if your visitor wishes to park in a residents' bay in the CPZ during zone operating times. A permit is not necessary outside of the CPZ operating times.

If you do not wish to buy a visitor permit your visitor will need to park in one of the following places:

• on your driveway or your land
• outside the operating times of the controlled parking zone when parking is free and unrestricted
• in a pay and display space

Why do we charge for visitor permits?

We implement parking controls to manage the demand for kerbside parking in areas where there aren't many parking spaces.

We introduce permits and charges to manage these areas and make sure that kerbside parking is available for permit holders who live and work within the CPZ.
