Book an appointment to register a birth

You are about to book an appointment to register a birth. Before you do, please read this page carefully.

What you will need?

Once logged in you will see our quick online booking system. We will ask you for:

  • details of the baby’s birth
  • parents’ names and surnames
  • an appointment date and time
  • card payment for a birth certificate.

Register a birth

Payment and conditions (birth certificates)

  • payment can be made by debit or credit card
  • payment is non-refundable

What happens next?

You will be invited to our register office for your appointment which will last approximately 20 minutes.

When registering the birth, you will be expected to know:

  • date and place of birth
  • forename(s), surname and sex of the child
  • parents’ forename(s), surname(s), address and occupation
  • date of parents’ marriage or civil partnership
  • mother’s maiden surname.

During your appointment you will be asked to show one of the following documents:

Supporting documents for the baby (required):

  • notification of birth (this is usually given to a mother by the hospital soon after giving birth) or
  • personal child health record or ‘red book’.

To help to ensure that the information recorded is accurate, it would be useful if you could bring supporting documentation with you.

Supporting documents for parents:

  • passport
  • proof of address (e.g. council tax bill, utility bill)
  • driving licence
  • birth certificate
  • change of name deed (if applicable)
  • marriage/ civil partnership certificate (if applicable).

NB: If you turn up late for your appointment, you will need to rebook
