Blackheath ward by-election

A by-election will held to elect a new Councillor for Blackheath ward.

A by-election for a new councillor in Blackheath ward will be held on Thursday 4 July 2024.

To vote in the council by-election, you must be registered to vote and a citizen of the UK, Commonwealth, Ireland, Cyprus or Malta. Note that EU citizens with retained voting rights, or from EU countries with reciprocal voting rights, are also eligible to vote in this by-election. The poll will be held alongside the parliamentary election.

Election of a Councillor for Blackheath ward in the London borough of Lewisham

1. A by-election is to be held for a Councillor in Blackheath ward on Thursday 4 July 2024.

2. Nomination papers can be obtained from the office of the Returning Officer, Electoral Services, Laurence House, Catford, SE6 9SE, during the times stated below.

3. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer, Electoral Services, Laurence House, Catford, SE6 9SE on any day after the date of this notice, on Monday to Friday between the hours of 10am and 4pm (excluding bank holidays) but no later than 4pm on Friday 7 June 2024.

4. If the election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday 4 July 2024.

5. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Tuesday 18 June 2024. Applications can be made online.

6. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services, Laurence House, Catford, SE6 9SE by 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024. Applications can be made online at postal vote  and proxy vote.

7. Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services, Laurence House, Catford, SE6 9SE by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024. Applications can be made online at proxy vote.

8. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector’s Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024. Applications can be made online.

9. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services, Laurence House, Catford, SE6 9SE by 5pm on Thursday 4 July 2024. The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024.
