North Lewisham heat network feasibility study

Information about our feasibility study for supplying the north of the borough with heat from the SELCHP waste incineration plant.

We appointed WSP to undertake a feasibility study for a heat network supplying new and existing buildings in the north of the borough with heat from the SELCHP waste incineration plant.

The feasibility study consists of three elements:

  • Element A:  A route optimisation study to determine the most effective route between SELCHP and Goldsmith’s College

  • network expansion assessment Element B: A to identify opportunities to establish additional connections to the network

  • esign studydElement C: A to identify the technical requirements of the heat network, allowing likely costs to be calculated

  • Element D: A governance and delivery options study for the heat network.

The study used a combination of methodologies and resources to find a preferred route for the installation of district heating pipework through an area of south east London that is largely residential and industrial.

The resulting report sets out the technical feasibility of the network giving the preferred option and specification for the route with an exploration of the financial and legal governance arrangements which could be used to deliver the network.
