What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
This course is open to learners with more complex communication needs, wishing to build on their skills and make new friends or improve existing friendships. Students are expected to attend weekly on time. Enrolment on the course is through interview with the Supported Learning Curriculum leader. Please book an appointment.There will be a pre-course assessment.
Learning Goals:
To understand the different types of relationships that people have and gain the confidence to say no to unwanted intrusion of personal space.
To explore what it means to have or be a friend and how friendships can develop. To learn skills to keep safe within a relationship. To maintain your safe boundaries.
To learn how to keep safe in daily life and when making new friends. To know who to talk to if you feel uncomfortable about a relationship with another person,
To create a portfolio of evidence of learning and achievement on the course.
What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Group work: discussion, question and answer, role play / scenarios. Individual work: student feedback, facilitation, demonstration.
What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Observation, verbal feedback, student self-assessment, peer group interaction, student application to tasks, completion of worksheets and ILPs.
Will extra work be required outside the class times?
Practising techniques learnt in class and feeding back to the class group.
What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
To buy an A4 folder and bring it with you each week.
What do I need to bring to the first class?
An A4 file, pen and paper.
