Creative computer animation and programming

Would you like to become an independent reader and writer despite the vision loss? This 11 week course will support community inclusion and health pathways. It is also a transition type course, a bridge between other deprtments at ALL and the Supported Learning department for learners thinking about moving on with their studies. On this course you will explore the skills necessary to become more independent in your everyday life. You will become more familiar with assistive technology like screen reader and audio type programmes. You will be able to access your course resources on the Moodle learning platform, you will explore how to use the screen reader software to access webpages, emails, documents and forms. You will practice using the keyboard shortcutsto toggle between two programmes.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
You need to have basic knowledge of the English Language. This course is for the visually impaired.There will be a pre-course assessment.

Learning Goals:
Use the screen-reader programme keyboard shortcuts to read webpages, emails, documents or forms Use the File Explorer keyboard shortcuts to locate saved/downloaded work Use the keyboard shortcuts to make corrections to typed text and to save work Read pre-prepared documents, use learning resources and complete course activities using audio input

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Learners will work individually supported by the tutor. The teaching mehtods will include: tutor one to one demonstrations, listening to audio materials and videos, speaking practice in groups, word-drilling. Reading texts using screen reader and audio typing. Course resources and digital practice materials will be available under the course on our Digital platform called Moodle. The tutor will guide you around this space.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will monitor your independent completion of tasks and will check your progress also via the correction of homework.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
You should practice the skills learnt in class independently outside class time.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
None.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
You will work with laptops provided by ALL in class.

We expect a commitment to attend well. This is beneficial to making progress. If you have problems in class with your work or with other learners please speak to your tutor or contact the Curriculum Leader. All courses are planned to be delivered in the learning centres.
