Screen printing - workshop

An exciting course allowing for personal development and an exploration of screen printing processes. The course has been designed to support learner’s looking to refresh their skills ensuring they can access the equipment fully enabling them to evolve creatively, work on personal projects and take part in any planned activities. - returning learners are encouraged to bring in current projects to work on.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
Screen printing experience is essential. If you have no experience please contact the Curriculum Leader by email to discuss your needs before enrolling.

Learning Goals:
Build and develop your skills. Complete an independent project. Experiment and expand your portfolio of work. Identify and achieve a personal goal as discussed with your tutor.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the course, including demonstration (both group and individual), one to one tuition, group work, progress assessments, observation, discussion and question and answer sessions.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use various methods to assess your progress during the course. These may include observation, completion of an Individual Learning Plan which will be updated regularly, evaluation of work samples, question and answer sessions, and photos of projects to record your achievements on Moodle.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
You may wish to work on projects outside the classroom to aid your progress. Homework exercises are set to help you improve and expand on what you've learned during the session. You're encouraged to access our virtual learning environment (VLE) at all.lewisham.gov.uk to take part in course forums and various online activities provided by the tutor. Please also sign up for a Pinterest account – find us listed under 'Achieving Dreams', and click 'Follow'.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
The course fee includes a small charge for basic materials and use of any specialist equipment. Learners are expected to buy a variety of paper, drawing equipment, a sketchbook and notebook, fabric, acetate (non porous surfaces) and any unusual printing inks – only basic inks are supplied. The course tutor will discuss this with you. Please do not purchase anything before your first lesson unless requested to do so. No liability can be accepted for expenses incurred for a course cancelled or altered at short notice.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
Working sketch book, drawing and writing equipment, notebook and images for inspiration. Your completed initial assessment if you haven’t emailed it in advance to the tutor. Don't forget to bring an apron, wear suitable clothing and enclosed footwear.

Options when finished
The department offers a wide variety of design, media, music and food courses at different levels. Information about these courses is available through the tutor, the curriculum leader or the ALL programme.

Additional information
The tutor will contact you via email before the course begins please ensure we have your correct details. This is a practical class, ALL cannot be held responsible for any items including work, materials, tools, etc. left by the learner in our workrooms. This learning space is used for a varied course offer, please leave the space clean and tidy ensuring chairs are stacked, rubbish and personal belongings are removed. All drinks taken into this space must be kept in a re-usable lidded cup or drink bottle.
