Local residents will benefit from 45 new social homes nearing completion in Lewisham, delivered by Phoenix Community Housing. The new homes in Rushey Green, built on the site of the old Job Centre, form part of Lewisham Council’s Building for Lewisham programme, delivering new social homes for families on the Council’s waiting list.

Residents that move into Velo House, named in homage to the old ‘Catford Velodrome’, will enjoy private balconies, access to a communal garden and free car club membership.

The Mayor of Lewisham, Damien Egan and Rushey Green Ward Councillors Louise Krupski and James-J Walsh visited the development last week to see the progress being made on the new homes, which are set to be completed next month.

Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham, said: “It’s great to see these new energy efficient social homes in Catford for local families nearing completion. These much-needed homes will make a huge difference to families on our housing waiting list and I look forward to visiting again when the new residents have moved in. Thank you to everyone involved in delivering this important scheme."

Carmen Simpson, resident and Chair at Phoenix Community Housing, said: “We are pleased to show the Mayor and Ward Councillors around one of our newest developments to discuss our plans for the site. As a resident-led organisation, people are at the heart of everything we do, so we look forward to delivering much needed affordable homes to local people in south Lewisham.”
