The Council has ended its contract with its existing provider, meaning cleaning services will be delivered by staff working directly for the Council.

Staff – who are responsible for cleaning more than 60 local buildings, including day centres, libraries, children’s centres and Council offices – have now moved on to Council contracts.

Mayor of Lewisham, Damien Egan, said: “I’m proud that we’re bringing this service in house, offering hard working staff better terms and conditions and greater control and accountability for the service.

“This is the latest contract we are bringing in-house through our insourcing programme. Over the last three years we have insourced over 270 staff, including our building maintenance team, our fostering recruitment, homelessness prevention and family support teams.

“Despite huge financial challenges we will continue to insource services when we can afford to do so, to ensure the best terms for our staff and best services for residents.”
