COVID-19 in Lewisham 27 January 2022 update
Today has brought new changes in the Government’s COVID-19 guidance as Plan B comes to an end. While this might feel like a turning point, it’s important to note that case rates in Lewisham and across the country are still high and you may still be hearing of friends or family members who are testing positive for COVID-19. We therefore need to approach these changes with caution, just as we have done throughout the pandemic. It’s important that we still take preventative measures, including washing our hands regularly, testing regularly and wearing face coverings in crowded spaces, as well as getting vaccinated.
Though face coverings are no longer compulsory in indoor settings, people are still advised to wear coverings in crowded and indoor spaces where they may come into contact with people they do not normally meet. And please be aware that face coverings must still be worn on all Transport for London services.
People no longer need to show the NHS COVID Pass at venues and events by law, although some venues may choose to continue with this arrangement.
And, under guidance introduced last week, people are no longer advised to work from home.
You can read more about the changes on the Government’s website.
The COVID-19 vaccine continues to provide the best protection from serious illness. You can find out about local vaccination clinics on the NHS website.
Free transport to vaccination centres
Free transport is now available for Lewisham residents who would otherwise have difficulty getting to their local COVID-19 vaccination centre. If you - or anyone you know - would benefit from this service, which is being provided by Voluntary Services Lewisham, please phone, text or WhatsApp 07857 558 388.
Vaccinations for 12-15s
All children aged 12 to 15 can get a first and second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine (including children who turn 12 on the date of vaccination). They can get their second dose from 12 weeks after they have had their first dose. If they have tested positive for COVID-19, there needs to be a 12-week gap between that test and their vaccination. Both their first and second doses will be the Pfizer vaccine.
I am pleased to say that Lewis Grove Pharmacy (SE13 6BG) has joined University Hospital Lewisham in providing vaccinations for anyone aged 12 or over. Lewis Grove Pharmacy opening times are currently:
- Mondays to Fridays, 9am to 8pm
- Saturdays, 9am to 5pm
- Sundays, 9pm to 4pm
They will accept walk-ins or bookings.
As mentioned in previous blog posts, University Hospital Lewisham vaccination clinic also accepts walk-ins or bookings:
- Monday to Sunday, 8am to 4pm
Many other pharmacies and clinics are in the process of gaining approval to vaccinate children aged 12 to 15. You can find the latest list of walk-in vaccination clinics for anyone aged 12 or over on the South East London NHS website.
Great Mental Health Day
Tomorrow (28 January) is Great Mental Health Day, a campaign to get people talking about mental health, raise awareness of the support available and build people’s confidence in asking for help. Thrive LDN, which was set up to support the mental health and resilience of Londoners during and after the pandemic, has a range of useful resources and guidance on offer. You can find tools, ideas and inspiration to help yourself and others on the Thrive LDN website.
