Primary school provision and support for children with SEND

See what support is available for children with special educational needs who go to primary school.

Most children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can get the support they need at a local mainstream school.

Primary schools with SEN support

If your child is identified with special educational needs (SEN), their school should take action to remove barriers to learning and put effective special educational provision in place.

SEN information and local offer at primary schools

All schools publish information on the provision and support they offer to children with SEND. If you are unsure of the support a school offers and want more information, contact the school directly – its designated special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) will be able to help you.

See the SEN information report and SEND policy for guidance.
