Training, support and development for school governors
Induction training
All new governors are invited to attend induction training to give them an introduction to their roles and responsibilities. These are held every term and will provide you with a good overview of school governance and your role as a governor.
Termly training programme
The governors of schools that subscribe to either the:
- Lewisham Central Training Service Level Agreement (SLA) for 2019–20
- Support and Training SLA for 2019–20 for schools with independent clerks
can attend as many central governor training programme sessions as they wish without charge.
This includes the induction for new governors and the safer recruitment training sessions.
If your school does not subscribe to one of the above SLAs you are welcome to attend but there will be a charge to your school as specified in the individual course details.
If you need advice and support, contact us on the details below.
Support for chairs
Whether you are a new or experienced chair, there is a range of support available to you.
For support for new chairs of governors please have a look at the information provided in our training programme or contact us for further information.
Chairs briefing sessions are held at the beginning of each term to which all chairs are invited. We can also arrange mentoring for new chairs via National Leaders of Governance.
Recruiting a new headteacher
Recruiting a new headteacher is perhaps the most important job a governing body undertakes. We offer high quality support to governing bodies in recruiting a new head teacher. Please contact us for further details.
