Table tennis

This course helps to improve hand /eye coordination by practising table tennis skills. This course is a 11 week course and part of a discrete curriculum for Adults with Learning Difficulties. You will learn the basics to be able to play a game of table tennis independently including the correct grip of the bat for serving, return, forehand and backhand strokes. The course also covers scoring and playing with others for single and double matches. To be able to return the ball to another player. To use fore and back hand. To improve co-ordination. Participate in class warm up every week. Alternate between fore and back hand strokes. To learn to score a table tennis game/basic rules use a score sheet to record points.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
Hand control and fair to good sight, good mobility.There will be a pre-course assessment.

Learning Goals:
To be able to return the ball to another player. To use fore and back hand. To improve co-ordination. Participate in class warm up every week. Alternate between fore and back hand strokes. To learn to score a table tennis game/basic rules use a score sheet to record points history. File your sheets in your course folder. To create a portfolio of evidence of learning and achievement on the course.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Demonstration, verbal explanation, supporting handouts and practical experience.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Observation, verbal feedback, student self-assessment, peer group interaction, completion of ILPs, practical group activities, videos and photographs.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
To continue exercising on own during the week.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Clothes, comfortable top. Layers to be able to strip off when warm. Tracksuit /Jogging bottoms / comfortable waisted trousers /leggings Footwear: Socks and trainer type shoes.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
An A4 folder.
