Introduction to creative computer animation and programming

Would you like to creatively engage while using technology and express stories using computing animation? This 11-week course can help you achieve these skills. During this course you will develop computer skills through coding. You will need to have some basic literacy, numeracy and computer skills to benefit from this course. You will be introduced to the use of coding blocks and create a visually animated story by using the blocks randomly, then use similar patterns to create different stories. You will learn how to repeat steps, calculate timings and add sound and will familiarise yourself and develop confidence using Scratch.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
This course is part of a discrete curriculum for adults with a learning disability. Enrolment is by interview at a pre-course assessment (PCA). To enrol on the course you need to be confident in: counting and recalling information, using a computer including navigating between windows and saving files.There will be a pre-course assessment.

Learning Goals:
To learn to make predictions of outcome when coding is set up in a random order To be able to spot coding patterns and use similarities to create a different scenario Move blocks of code and change the random order to see what happens Create a visually animated story and upload your progress to Moodle

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Within this small supportive class, your tutor may use the following teaching methods that will be inclusive for all abilities and levels, so that all learners make good progress towards their goals: demonstrations, discussions, 1:1 support and practical group activities.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Assessment may include: informal question and answer, feedback, self-assessment, quizzes, games, portfolios and case studies.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
It will be beneficial for you to practise what you have learnt in class in your everyday life and you may be asked by your tutor to complete something specific to enhance your new skills and improve your confidence.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
You will need an A4 writing pad, pens, pencils, a ruler and an A4 File. You should buy a USB memory stick to save your work so that you can keep it at the end of term.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
You will need an A4 writing pad, folder, pen and USB stick.
