What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
To enrol on this course, you do not need any previous experience in composition or songwriting, just the desire to collaborate and co-create new original work. Ideally, you should have some musical understanding or experience playing an instrument or singing. It is recommended that you take Collaborative Sounds 1 or 2 alongside this course if you can (or haven't already) to support your performance and musical skills. There will be a pre-course assessment.
Learning Goals:
To collaborate and co-create as a group, writing songs, instrumental compositions, and lyrics
To explore the compositional parameters of existing musical and sonic works, and how we can use these to explore and construct our own compositions
To compose and co-create original music and songs inspired by our collective lived experiences, interests, and areas of exploration
To create a portfolio and keep a notebook of compositions, songs, lyrics, and poetry, and record compositions
What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Within this small supportive class, your tutor may use the following teaching methods that will be inclusive for all abilities and levels, so that all learners make good progress towards their goals: demonstrations, discussions, 1:1 support and practical group activities.
What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Assessment may include: informal question and answer, feedback, self-assessment, quizzes, games, portfolios and case studies.
Will extra work be required outside the class times?
It will be beneficial for you to practise what you have learnt in class in your everyday life and you may be asked by your tutor to complete something specific to enhance your new skills and improve your confidence.
What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
All materials will be provided for this course.
What do I need to bring to the first class?
Just yourself! You can bring an instrument if you have something at home that you would like to play.
