Hands on art history - ways of seeing

This course is aimed at studying the why and what of artists’ artworks. You will discover how to read a painting and building, and to learn the performances used in artworks. Each project will have featured artist or genre. The course will suit learners who are interested in expanding their understanding of art context, styles and practices. The sessions will engage you to discuss the reasons behind the artworks and include a very simple, beginner-friendly practical session to enhance understanding. If you sometimes feel apprehensive about the technical side of art practice and would like to improve your visual understanding of art, this course will be very beneficial to you. It will increase your confidence and self-esteem as you learn to engage with the selected works, and you will gain a sense of pride that you are no longer out of your comfort zone. All sessions will be centred around fun ways of learning about artwork, as you become part of a group, connecting and talking to each other. No art skills are needed.
