What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
No prior knowledge is needed for this course except enthusiasm and a desire to learn.
Learning Goals:
To understand why art has been made
To gain confidence in discussion within a group
To gain increased knowledge of the impact art and design has in our everyday lives
To increase visual accessibility to artwork when visiting galleries
What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Teaching methods will include: demonstrations, group and individual discussion, 1:1 tuition, group work, assessment of progress, observation, question and answer sessions.
What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Assessment methods will include: observation, individual and group verbal feedback, learner self-assessment, peer group interaction, completion of ILPs and your portfolio.
Will extra work be required outside the class times?
Learners will be encouraged to continue with some of the tasks/exercises during the week between study sessions. You may like to do some drawings in museums or take pictures of objects which inspire you. Use your sketch book daily to improve your memory of working practices.
What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Learners should wear old clothes and bring a notebook and pen. An A4 sketchbook and A3 carrying portfolio would also be useful. When working with messy material it is useful to have your own rubber gloves.
What do I need to bring to the first class?
You should bring: a sketchbook and pen. All learners will be asked to arrive to the lesson on time so that you are able to access the course information and safety procedures.
Options when finished
There are a variety of different courses available in the Mindlift Department. Information about these courses is available in the prospectus and through your tutor and curriculum leader. You can also apply to mainstream courses and have support from Mindlift.

We expect a commitment to participate every week. This is beneficial to making progress. If you have problems accessing the course content, with your work or with other learners please speak to your tutor or contact the curriculum leader.
