Yoga for mental health - summer

This yoga for mental health course seeks to focus on both physical and mental wellbeing, where learners are encouraged to self-explore in a safe and inclusive environment. The sessions aim to improve strength, balance, flexibility and mobility, with exercises tailored to each learner’s abilities, enabling everyone to reach their full potential. Focusing on movement and breathing, you will create a moving meditation that promotes relaxation, reduces stress and improves mood.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
Learners need to have an interest in wellbeing and relaxing and to have chosen the course themselves. Enrolment on the course is through an interview with the Mindlift curriculum leader. Please book an appointment.There will be a pre-course assessment.

Learning Goals:
To practise mindfulness techniques to promote mental wellbeing To practise breathing techniques to promote a calm state of mind To explore self-understanding through deep relaxation/meditation To improve strength, flexibility, mobility and balance

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Teaching methods will include a weekly class structure, demonstration, good breathing and mindfulness exercises, step-by-step building of skills, repetition of exercises, group work, pair work, 1-1 work. Classes will always end with a guided ten-minute relaxation.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Assessments methods will include: observation, verbal feedback, learner self-assessment, peer group interaction, completion of ILPs, practical group activities and photographic records, with weekly development recorded.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
Practice where possible is recommended. Reviewing personal progress and setting personal goals.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Wear loose comfortable clothing.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
A4 file, a pen and paper.

Options when finished
There are a variety of different courses available in the Mindlift Department. Information about these courses is available in the prospectus and through your tutor and curriculum leader. You can also apply to mainstream courses and have support from Mindlift.

We expect a commitment to attend well. This is beneficial to making progress. If you have problems in class with your work or with other learners please speak to your tutor or contact the curriculum leader.
